The Baltimore Skydivers Club began in 1959 and was incorporated in the State of Maryland in 1961. Their first drop zone was located on the Bassler farm in the vicinity of what is now the Howard County General Hospital in the town of Columbia in central Maryland. Unfortunately, the DZ was located under the glide path of the west approach to Friendship Airport (BWI), and commercial pilots complained to FAA. The Club relocated to Gist Maryland in 1964.
